NEHC Western/Reining Medal Class
Will be offered at the May 4th, June 15th and the August 10th shows only. Entries must be members of NEHC. Membership forms will be available at the shows. You may join the day of the show provided completed membership form and fees are paid prior to submission of entry form. Family membership fee $30, Individual membership fee $25 (youths may be individual members, family membership is not required)
Exhibitors will be judged on seat, hands, performance of horse, appointments of horse and rider and suitability of horse to rider. Horses are to enter the ring at a walk and will be judged at a walk, jog and lope. They shall be worked both ways of the ring and must be on the correct lead. After being worked in a group, the judge will ask for each horse to work individually. Horses are required to back.
There must be a minimum of three exhibitors to hold classes. Finals will be held at the Eastern States Exposition (The Big E) in West Springfield, MA on September 12 and 13, 2008. The purpose of those medal classes offered at our shows is to qualify exhibitors to compete in the finals at The Big E. Those who qualify to compete in the finals will receive an information package from NEHC.
Junior riders will receive 4 questions to be answered in essay form. Winner of the essay will receive a $500 cash scholarship. In addition to other prizes the winner of the medal class will receive a $2000 scholarship to William Woods University. A Sportsmanship Award will also be awarded at the finals.

Appropriate Tack and Attire:
Male Dress: Long sleeve collared shirt of Western style. Bolo or necktie required. Jacket or vest optional. Western pants or clean dress jeans with belt and buckle. Chaps are required. Western style boot and Western hat.
Female Dress: Long sleeve collared shirt of Western style with appropriate neckwear or slinky of Western style. Jacket or vest are optional. Chaps are required. Western pants or clean dress jeans with belt and buckle. Western style boot and Western hat.
Tack: Horses shall be shown with stock saddle without tapaderos. Martingales, tie downs and nose bands are not permitted. Curb straps are required on all Western style bits, but must be of the flat standard variety at least ½” in width with no twist and must meet the approval of the judge. Proof of age at time of entry is mandatory for any horse to be shown Western in a snaffle bit or bosal. Horse must be five (5) years of age or under. Any western equipment of the exhibitors choice may be used, but the kind of equipment apparently necessary for the control of the animal, such as severe bit or spurs, may be considered by the judge in making awards. Extra credit will not be given for expensive, fancy or parade equipment of the animal or dress of the rider.

A first place win qualifies you
for the finals. A total of 10 points qualifies you for the finals. Once you win
a first place you are no longer eligible to compete in the qualifying classes.

Woodstock Fair Grounds location offers Saturday arrival;after 3pm. Stalls are available for $25
per stall. Because we are charged a $625
“clean stall” deposit, any non-member must pay an additional $25 per stall
deposit; refunded after “clean stall” check out. Any member leaving a dirty stall will be
charged $25 per stall. Membership will
be held “not in good standing” until the balance is paid in full. All stalls must be checked prior to
departure. You must provide your own
bedding. Camper sites are available for
$15 with utilities, $10 without. For
those interested we have a pot luck dinner on Saturday night!

SHOW RULES
- S.N.E.H.A. rules shall apply in all classes.
- S.N.E.H.A. Show Committee and Property Owners will not be
responsible for injury to animals, persons ordamage to
property of exhibitors or spectators.
- The Judge's
decision is final.
- All ages
referred to in the class list are as of January 1st of the
current year..
- No horse
shall be allowed in the spectator area at any time! 6. All
Dogs on grounds must be leashed at all times! 7. Management reserves the
right to prohibit any persons from attending or showing a horse in the ring and further
to remove any person or horse from the show for just cause
without being liable for compensation.
- Exhibitors are notified that any act of
discourtesy to the judge or officials on the part of the owner shall forfeitall entry
fees.
- All
exhibitors wishing to discuss classes with the judge must go
through the S. N. E. H. A. steward of the day.
- EXCESSIVE whipping, spurring, unnecessary yanking on the bit, or any form of cruelty/neglect to a horse
will not be tolerated and should be reported to the show steward.
- Profanity
in or out of the ring will not be tolerated.
- Management reserves the
right not to refund any money other
than for lameness, or an injury to be defined by the Steward or Veterinarian
at owner's expense.
- AII exhibitors riding a horse anywhere on the
grounds in an English saddle must wear a hard hat. Hard hats are allowed in
all classes, at the exhibitor's discretion regardless of discipline.
- Proper shoes with heels
are required when riding on the show grounds.
- Proper attire is
required in all classes. Please refer to the rule book for each individual
discipline requirements.
- A green horse is a
horse in its first or second year of showing. To be ridden by an experienced rider!
